How do I plant Crocus bulbs so that the chipmunks and squirrels don't dig them up or eat the greens?

you put paprika on the bulbs before planting it..after covering it you sprinkle some in the area...then you put chicken wire over it until it starts growing...also if the animals still eating it you get some moth balls and crush them up and sprinkle it in the whole area...good luck..How do I plant Crocus bulbs so that the chipmunks and squirrels don't dig them up or eat the greens?
One solution is to plant them up in bowls or similar containers first. That way,you can simply dig them up when flowering has finished and divide the bulbs into more containers. How do I plant Crocus bulbs so that the chipmunks and squirrels don't dig them up or eat the greens?
I have found that the best deterrent is to lay chicken wire over the bulb bed during the fall/winter season. Hold it in place with some rocks. Once the bulbs start to sprout, remove the wire.
Plant all your bulbs in a mixture of soil and coarse gravel - once they are up mulch them with gravel. Scatter some moth balls or flakes in the planting hole and on top of the ground.
Your best bet is to cull the squirrels %26amp; chipmunks.
Some people plant them surrounded with wire mesh. For the greens I don't know.
With a cat nearby.
