Soundcard's playback is distored chipmunk-mayhem! Help? :)?

My soundcard's audio playback sounds chipmunk-like.

This happens when many apps are open. It must be using up the ';bandwidth'; of allowed sound output so it's messing it up? This is just speculation...

I would like to know what can resolve this? I don't remember this problem happening all the time before. I have install the drivers many times and no change. Could this just be a RAM problem? (2GBs usually with about 400mb free with eg Winamp+Game open.) It will nearly always work fine if only one app like winamp is open.. but if I open Google Chrome it usually goes pear shaped.

Thanks for you time!

Try updating the sound card drivers.

Go to the website of whoever manufactured the computer, whether it be Dell, HP, Compaq etc. Then search for your model PC and download the appropriate sound card drivers for your computer.

If it is a custom built PC, go to the website of the company that made the sound card.

Install the new drivers and your problem should be fixed.
